Fully equipped kitchen with range cooker with extractor fan, fridge freezer, (limited freezer space) and microwave.
You are able to use any of the equipment you find in the kitchen as long as you clean it and put it away after use (the dishwasher is NOT available for general use only centre volunteers may use this). .
Approximately 50 sets of the following: mug, bowl, plate, side plate, knife, fork, spoon and teaspoon. There are plastic beakers on site but no glasses. Two kettles and 4 hot water flasks for self-service. Various utensils, pots, and pans for cooking. Colour coded chopping boards, first aid kit (regularly checked and replenished as items get used) and accident report forms.
Each hirer is expected to have qualified first aid assistant(s) on site to ensure adequate emergency care is provided when needed.
Hirers of the centre who intend to provide food to visitors to their event must ensure a qualified food safety standards person oversees the preparation of any food to meet UK law. Information regarding hand cleaning, chopping boards, allergens, and general kitchen hygiene are displayed on the walls of the kitchen.
We recommend you do not walk through the fire door to the kitchen (which should be closed at all times and not propped open) with any liquids, and make use of the kitchen hatch instead. There are also a number of serving trollies available for hirers to use. Please be sure to clean the surface of the hatch and the serving trollies both before your event and after.
For comfort there are also two electric fans in the kitchen to help keep people using the kitchen cool. By the side of the microwave you will find two portable heaters if needed for the main hall.
Please do not leave any food items in the fridge or freezer. Each group is unable to make use of already opened items for health and safety reasons. Take everything home with you, share it with your neighbours or even a local food bank instead.
The muster point is at the far end of the carpark and you will be shown where this on your first visit to the centre
The Rose Walker Community Centre whilst run by the Cheadle Heath Community Association is a Stockport Council building. As such fire safety checks are carried out on regular basis such as checking fire extinguishers. Water, gas and electric checks including PAT testing are also conducted on a regular basis. Fire muster point notices are displayed in the centre and there is a manual fire alarm available for use if required.
There is a defibrillator on the outside wall of the centre, next to the main door. This is available for public use (maintained by our volunteers). To access it a person needs to phone 999 and you will be given a code and told what to do.
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong that requires urgent attention you will be provided with a contact number. Otherwise if you notice something that should be looked at you can either email us or tell the person who will be closing the centre at the end of your visit.
As per UK law our certificate of insurance is on display in the centre, You will find this on the notice board to the right hand side of the kitchen door.
Hirers bringing their own electrical equipment to use during their session must ensure adequate PAT testing is completed before plugging anything into the mains supply.
PLEASE NOTE
For regular users of the centre e.g. weekly groups, businesses or events open to the general public you will need to provide a certificate of public liability insurance, a risk assessment and safeguarding policy (if applicable to your event). We also recommend you take a register of people coming in and going out so that you can provide numbers to the fire officers if required.
Regular groups may be provided with key fob access to the centre, your responsibilities will include closing down the centre so it is secure, including setting the alarm and locking the carpark after use. If you need to pass the key to someone else to run the session you MUST inform us first, and ensure the person is fully briefed on all your procedures to keep the building and visitors safe.
15 foldable tables (GoPak) which seat 10 people per table are available plus 60 chairs for you to arrange as you wish. A chair trolley is provided to move multiple chairs in one go. (Maximum capacity 70 seated people for safety).
For safety the plastic chairs can be moved using the chair trolley but only stack 10 at a time. This is also the highest number of stacked chairs to put away in the store room. The exception is the heavier "wood-effect" chairs only 5 of these should be moved at any one time with the chair trolley.
GoPak tables are standard use for a centre such as ours. If you require information on how to set these up safely please use Google to search for applicable videos. There are lots to choose from. Whilst there are 15 tables which are able to seat 10 people per table there are not 150 chairs available. The maximum seated capacity for safety is 70 including the comfy chairs mentioned below. Additional tables can be used on the edge of the room to display items or as refreshment tables.
In addition to the standard chairs, you will also find a number of comfy sofas and armchairs around the main hall, Some small coffee tables and high chairs can also be found in the chair storage area.
Everything is available for hirers to use but we ask that you clean items (particularly the tables and high-chairs) after use. And put everything away as you found it when you arrived to the centre.
The main lights in the hall are operated by switches on the wall, you will be shown where these are when you first visit the centre.
The centre has ceiling fans and for warmer days and 3 wall heaters for chillier seasons. All are easily accessible to those using the centre, operated by simple on off switches. Please ensure heaters and fans are turned off before you leave.
The fire exit doors must be unbolted during use and locked at the end of your session. You will be shown how to operate these if required when you first visit the centre (for one off events, these are usually done by the volunteer who is opening up and closing for you).
To the far end of the centre is a small window with a shutter that operates from the inside.
At that end of the centre it is possible to position inflatables such as a bouncy castle (maximum size 9ft high, 12ft wide and 11ft deep.
There is a partition which can be pulled across to divide the area into two spaces. And there are several wall sockets around the edges of the centre.
There are 3 locked areas in the centre which are not accessible to everyone. The first is the main office, there is a door towards the end of the centre with key code and through the accessible bathroom there is a locked door. These are not available for general use.
The centre is fully-accessible for all levels of mobility with ramps either side of the building and an accessible toilet.
Our centre also has a Loop system for those with hearing difficulties. Directly in front of the main door is disabled parking bay.
There is a ladies bathroom area with two toilets this area also includes a baby changing station, hand drier and heater.
The gents is a single toilet and also doubles as our accessibility bathroom with arm rails and safety alarm. Again this has it's own heater and hand dryer.
Handwash soap, paper towels and toilet rolls are provided by us.
Hirers do need to bring black bin bags with them. We ask that you please empty the bins after use and dispose of rubbish in the large bins at the front of the centre.
There is a locked carpark which can be opened with key (located in the kitchen on top of the microwave) when the centre is in use.
We welcome hirers to use the carpark for themselves and visitors but we ask that you lock the carpark at the end of your session and return the key to the top of the microwave for the next set of visitors. The carpark does have painted bays as line guides for parking.
Immediately at the front of the centre you will find a disabled parking bay. All other areas around the centre are off limits for parked cars. This is to ensure access to the public park and centre for emergency vehicles.
Outside lighting is on a timer set by the council. The same applies for the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) flood lights.
The park area directly behind the centre (through the fire exit doors) is a public park "Cheadle Heath Park" which belongs to the council. You are welcome to use the space as a public park but please be respectful of others using the area.
You will find a climbing web, a slide and swings plus an area for toddlers. In the area of the park, near the carpark is a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) set up for football, basket ball, netball and tennis.
You will also find park benches and some picnic benches. Information about reporting concerns in relation to the park can be found on our noticeboard as you come through the main door.
PLEASE NOTE
If you wish to use the outdoor space for an event you will require permission from Stockport Council, specifically Greenspace who will require a layout plan and full risk assessment to grant your use of the area.
